The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Commission (TWRC) will meet in Nashville on August 25 and 26, 2004 and the major item on the agenda will be the setting of the 2004-2005 waterfowl hunting seasons. The meeting will be held at the TWRA Region II office located at the Ellington Agricultural Center.
Committee meetings will be conducted during the afternoon on August 25th, beginning at 1:00 p.m. C.S.T. and the Commission meeting will begin at 9:00 a.m. C.S.T. on Thursday, August 26.
The TWRC sets waterfowl seasons each year within guidelines determined by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.
TWRA's recommendation is a 60-day season similar to last year and the maximum allowed by the federal framework. The Agency is recommending a split season for ducks to run Nov. 27 - 28 and Dec. 4 - Jan. 30 for the statewide season and Nov. 13-14 and Dec. 4 - Jan. 30 for the Reelfoot Zone. This recommendation will maximize the number of weekends. The 30-day restriction on pintails and canvasback is the same as last year. The proposal recommends a 6-bird bag that is the same as last year.
The recommendation for the October goose seasons is similar to last year, except that the Agency has received approval to add up to 9 days of goose hunting (if used prior to October 16) in the Southwest Zone and the Kentucky/Lake Barkley Zone. The recommendation is Oct. 2-10; that is the same as the early goose season in the eastern part of the state.
The TWRC is the governing body of the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency (TWRA). The meetings are open to the public and all hunters, anglers, and media are encouraged to attend. |
